EscapistPlus Mobile
An experimental attempt at improving the Escapist Magazine's Mobile site, one byte at a time.
Development Version Install version: 1.0.6 released: 8-9-2017
About this add-on This add-on tries to make the Escapist Magazine a little bit easier to use and navigate on mobile devices, mostly the forums.

This is done by trying to streamline the information on the Escapist Magazine in a vertical manner and making buttons and clickable elements bigger for fingers to touch.

The add-on at this moment is very much in an experimental phase and absolute stability can not be guaranteerd 100% of the time, however, the add-on has undergone enough testing and debugging to the extent that I feel comfortable sharing it.

For feedback, suggestions or other messages, you can visit this thread or message me through here.

This add-on was developed and tested on Android 4.4.2 with the latest version of Firefox so usage may vary on older or newer versions, in that case, feel free to shoot a message using the above methods.
Version History Features The main focus of this add-on is to redesign the mobile website, so features are mostly restricted to page redesigns rather than functional additions as found in the desktop add-on.

Thread Redesign
A redesign of the thread layout of the forums.

In an attempt to make the threads better viewable on mobile devices, the posts are redesigned so that they flow in a vertical manner rather than a horizontal manner.

  • The superfluous "The Escapist Portal" link from the top navigation is removed and its positioning is adjusted, also the clickable area of the links in the navigation is increased to make touching the links easier.
  • The page navigational buttons are increased in size as to make them easier to touch.
  • The thread navigation menu has been redesigned to properly sit within the screen.
  • User's avatars are now shown above their posts as are their names, however, user title, posts and join date are omitted because they are not crucial information and don't fit within the new design without it becoming bloaty.
  • Images in posts now fit to your screen's width, rather than grow outside of it.
  • The buttons for the reply box are increased in size as to make them easier to touch.
Profile Redesign
A redesign of the profile page layout.

In an attempt to make the profile page better viewable on mobile devices, some things are tweeked for it to work.

  • The superfluous "The Escapist" link from the top navigation is removed and its positioning is adjusted, also the clickable area of the links in the navigation is increased to make touching the links easier.
  • The Profile navigation links are properly placed and spaced out and made bigger to make them easier to touch.
  • Badges and the User data are properly spaced so that they don't overlap.
  • All the information blocks are properly positioned in a purely vertical manner rather than horizontal manner.
Groups Redesign
A redesign of the group page layout.

In an attempt to make the group page better viewable on mobile devices, some things are tweeked for it to work.

  • The superfluous "The Escapist" link from the top navigation is removed and its positioning is adjusted, also the clickable area of the links in the navigation is increased to make touching the links easier.
  • The Group navigation links are properly placed and spaced out and made bigger to make them easier to touch.
  • Group data in the header is properly spaced so that it doesn't overlap.
  • The input field in the chat doesn't break outside of the screen.
  • The Options are properly spaced out and clickable.
Main Page Redesign
A small redesign of the main page.

More screen space is used to display the data of the main page.

  • The "Latest", "Popular" and "Comments" buttons are now spaced evenly and don't shift when clicking on them.
  • The news items now use the full width of their box and not only a small part of it, also information doesn't bleed over to other areas anymore.
Side Menu Behaviour
A small tweak in how the side menu's operate.

Rather than moving the entire page and its content to the side when a side menu is activated, the page now stays stationary and the side menu moves over it.
This change is implemented because this way is faster to render for mobile browsers, making the opening and closing of menus a faster operation.
